Looming US disaster in the Persian Gulf

The Trump Administration is in the process of starting a war with Iran. It will be a disaster. How big a disaster it will be is largely dependent on how radical the intervention is. An Iraq-style regime change war will be very disastrous. More so than the Iraq War.

Here is one Austrian commentary on it from Heidi Riepl in the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten („Amerikas Spiel mit dem Feuer" 15.05.2019; my translation):
Gunboat diplomacy is an old notion used to enforce power interests in the heyday of imperialism. Us President Donald Trump is now apparently pursuing such ill-fated war policy against Iran. After imposing the "toughest sanctions ever" against the regime in Tehran, he moved an aircraft carrier and a B-52 bomber squadron to the Persian Gulf. In addition, the US government is now also considering the deployment of 120,000 troops to the Middle East.

Trump and his hardliners make no secret of the fact that they are no longer concerned with improving the allegedly inadequate Iran deal. Their goal is regime change in Tehran, to be enforced with maximally threatening postures.
A US invasion of Iran would.be.a.disaster.
