From MAGA prehistory: Spiro Agnew in Jackson, Mississippi 1969

There have been stone cold reactionaries in the Republican Party for a long time before Trump came down the infamous golden escalator. The Goldwater wing of the Republican Party gave respectable opinion in both parties a shock when they took over the party in 1964. The path from there to the MAGA era is pretty straightforward. And Spiro Agnew (Vice President 1969-1973) was a major station along the pathway.
