Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and the Orange Clown

Bernie Sanders appeared on The Young Turks talking about the Presidential campaign, the immedidate danger to democracy that Trump represents right now and in the immediate wake of the November 3 election, and how he would like to see progressives act in relation to a Biden Administration. BERNIE Joins TYT Live to Talk COVID; Trump’s Wall Street Handouts 10/15/2020:

Biden's town hall was on ABC, because President Bunker Boy chickened out of having an actual debate. ABC would probably have preferred to have a crazy clown show instead of the substantive discussion they got. Watch ABC News Joe Biden Town Hall in Philadelphia Moderated by George Stephanopoulos 10/15/2020 (town hall begins around 1:01:00):

Around 1:54:00, Biden seems to be saying that he would expect his Justice Department to conduct independent, professional investigations of crimes committed by Trump Administration officials. I hope he's serious about that. Because that really is what needs to happen.

Remembering that Biden guiding campaign theme is I'm Not Donald Trump, he does give a decent presentation of his own political priorities, and displays his empathy well. Without the COVID-19 pandemic, I don't believe an essentially passively-framed campaign would be doing as well as the polls currently show that he is. He did talk about bringing people together and building broad coalitions in Congress. But I don't believe he said either "bipartisanship" or "budget deficit" the whole time. And that's a good thing!

NBC had the clown (horror) show, Donald Trump Town Hall With Voters 10/15/2020:

To the surprise of no one, it was pretty demented. Also, the sun rose in the east this morning. He did manage to say that he denounces white supremacy (in the middle of spewing about "antifa") and that he accepts a peaceful transition (and then spews about plots against him and his fantasy massive voter fraud). Standard Trump ranting, in other words.

Thinking of the post-election period, here's a relevant podcast, with the grim title of 4.04 American Reckoning, Part 1: Civil Wars and How to Stop Them 10/09/2020, featuring historian Bob McElvaine, political scientist Erica Chenoweth, and Sean Eldridge of Stand Up America and Protect The Results.
