Confederate "Heritage" Month 2020, April 28: "Old Abe Lincoln Came Out of the Wilderness"

Here's another Civil War era song from Folkways' Songs of the Civil War (1860) celebrating Abraham Lincoln in a kind of corny campaign song, Old Abe Lincoln Came Out of the Wilderness, sung by Hermes Nye:

From the liner notes: "The most lasting of the Lincoln songs, this rollicking air was employed as a Lincoln campaign ditty in the election of 1860. The tune, which is best known today as 'The Old Grey Mare,' has been traced back to a composition (circa 1858) known as 'Down in Alabam'' composed by a J. Warner."

Here's another version, which is worth listening to just to say you've hear a performance by the Millard Fillmores Orchestra.
